The home buying process is very collaborative process between the loan officer and the borrower. It is important to know how the process works and what to avoid doing during the home buying process. Your loan officer should give an overview of the process in the beginning and hopefully tell you about the home buyers best practices.
DONT’S
► Do not obtain new debt such as a new credit card, or make major purchases such as a car, jewelry, furniture, etc.
► Do not make unusual deposits into your bank accounts or move money around from one account to another. All transfers must be documented and this will only cause you to provide more paper work.
► Do not pay off charges, collections or other debts unless directed by your loan officer.
DO’S
► Do enjoy the process as much as possible but remain objective and do what is in your best interest.
► Do make decisions as soon as possible. Hesitation slows down the process.
► Do respond to your loan officers requests for documentation as soon as possible.
► Do stay current on all of your accounts.
► Do continue to work your job as normal as possible with the same hours and do not take any unnecessary time off.
► Do be prepared to explain large deposits and document transfers from unknown accounts.
► Do ask questions. I really enjoy educating my client’s and love it when I get to explain in detail what exactly is entailed in obtaining a mortgage.
